Paramedic 535
Depending on staffing, the unit can be called “Ambulance”, “IV”, “Medic”, or “Para-Medic” 535. The heavy duty Freightliner Chassis with Life Line Box is one of several medic units with heavy duty chassis to be brought on line by stations in Baltimore County.
The Baltimore County Fire Department has since switched over to all heavy
duty International chassis.
Hereford Volunteer Ambulance will shortly put a second unit in
service and switch this unit to second line.
Squad 533
In Maryland, a “Squad” is a rescue and light truck combination. Squad 533 is a 1993 International chassis with air brakes, air ride suspension, and with two PTO’s. One PTO drives a 25KW generator, the other a 30,000LB variable speed, hydraulic drive Ramsey winch. A 38’ light tower, with 6,000 watts of light rises from the front middle section of the “box”.
A Holmatro double two-stage pump feeding two 100 foot supply reels provides power to a cutter, a spreader, or various rams. In addition the Squad carries a Personal Power Unit if a rescue team needs to range farther than the supply reels will reach.
Utility 532
2002 Ford F550 Crew Cab Dual Rear Wheel 4X4, Reading Aerotech Body, with Fisher 10’ Articulated Snow Plow.
Our utility is utilized as an “ALS Support Unit” to provide ALS services when the medic unit is out on a call.
A snow plow can be attached quickly for making sure the medic unit can get through the rural areas of “The Hereford Zone” in the Winter.
With a crew cab, it is also utilized to upgrade/add people power or to carry additional equipment to medical or rescue
calls, or serve as a "mini" rescue piece if Squad 533 is out of
service.
